The Lancaster County MPO is a coalition between local governments, regional agencies, and other groups with an interest in transportation. We tackle transportation planning in Lancaster County.

Our transportation system is made up of trains, buses, roads, trails, and sidewalks - things that help us go from place to place. Transportation planning is the process of imagining what this system could look like in the future. We create plans with our partners so that we can build this future together. Connects2040 is our current plan. It is a result of public input, new ways to gather data, and the concepts developed in the county’s Places2040 plan.

We approach transportation planning with a ‘3 Cs’ process:
Continuing analysis and strategy
Comprehensive awareness of the factors that can effect transportation
Cooperative vision among partners in the region

The Lancaster County MPO was created in 1965 through an agreement between PennDOT, the City of Lancaster, and Lancaster County. We serve the County’s 60 municipalities.

We are staffed by the Lancaster County Planning Department.
