A Framework for Transportation Projects Through 2045
Connects2040 is Lancaster County’s current Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). It contains an outline on how our community can meet the mobility needs of people and their goods in Lancaster County between now and 2045. The plan analyzes how changes in the regional economy, social trends, and new technologies need to be considered as our transportation system develops. We looked at how our infrastructure and services of bike paths, roads, and bus routes will need to be modified to adapt to these changes.
Connects2040 focuses on eight policy areas:
Safety
Reliable Travel
Transportation Choices
Environmental Protection
System Maintenance
Critical Connections
Meeting Performance Goals
Quality of Service
Within the plan, each of these policy areas has a list of strategies for the community to carry out over the next 25 years. The Lancaster MPO is organizing many groups in our community to implement this plan.
The plan comes from the input of many people across the county. We consulted Transportation officials, major shippers, underserved populations, Plain Sect communities, human services providers, and emergency responders while it was formed. A survey was conducted of the general public for the review of its major ideas and strategies. We worked with the Lancaster County Planning Commission (LCPC), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and PennDOT while writing the plan. Connects2040 is the result of this long collaborative process.
